All floats must be parked at Peacock/Raley Hall Lot no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, October 6th for judging.
Floats limited to pickup trucks or flat bed trailers. According to NC Statue 20-123, “trailers must be attached to the towing unit by means of safety chains or cables which shall be of sufficient strength to hold the gross weight of the towed vehicle in the event the primary towing device fails or becomes disconnected while being operated.”
Maximum riders: limited to the number necessary to work the float properly (10 or less). Parade organizers will limit numbers.
No substance use: Floats will be checked before parade starts and during parade route. Any members under the influence of alcohol/drugs will be barred from participation and their group will be disqualified from the parade and all homecoming contests and subject to disciplinary proceedings.
Each organization sets its own float expenditure level. (*Except Department Affiliated Organizations which must complete the budget request form.)
A $50 honorable mention prize will be awarded to all groups* who register by the deadline, arrive on time, successfully complete the parade, and meet the homecoming float guidelines. (*Except Department Affiliated Organizations and groups who win prize money by placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in each category.)
Up to $100 (in addition to the $50) will be reimbursed to each group that turns in their receipts for float supplies by Wednesday, October 11, 2017 (before Fall Break). Receipts must be itemized and printed with company name or logo. Hand-written receipts must be accompanied by cash register receipts to be eligible for reimbursement.
No gasoline or diesel powered generators or other motors allowed on floats.
If music volume on floats drowns out surrounding Kazoo Bands the float will be disqualified.
No students may ride on a float any more than 3 feet from the bottom surface of the trailer.
- Student groups are encouraged to have walking groups in the parade. The walking group will walk in front of their float.
- If the group does not have a float, the organization may still have a walking group. However, the walking group is not eligible for participation funding.
- If you have a walking group, you must have a banner which clearly identifies the organization. The banner made for the banner contest CAN be used. All Contest Banners being used in the parade must be taken down by Friday morning before the parade.
